How we verify tradies
Every verification stamp on a Home Done profile names the register it was checked against and the date we checked it. This page explains exactly what we verify, how, and — just as importantly — what we don’t.
Licences — checked against government registers
Where a state exposes its licensing register, we check the licence number the business gave us directly against it: the NSW Fair Trading trades register for New South Wales and the QBCC register for Queensland. A licence only shows as verified when the register confirms it is current, and the stamp on the profile shows the date of that check. Licences do lapse, so we re-check over time — the date on the stamp is always the most recent real check, never an assumption.
ABN — checked against the Australian Business Register
We confirm the business’s ABN is active on the Australian Business Register, which also gives us the “operating since” year shown on profiles. An inactive or missing ABN means no ABN stamp — the profile says “not confirmed” instead.
Details confirmed by a real conversation
Many of the businesses on Home Done have been on the phone with our team: we confirm trading details, service areas and licence numbers in conversation, and profile About sections written from those calls are published only after the tradie approves the exact wording themselves.
What “self-reported” means
Some things have no public register we can check — public liability insurance is the big one. Where a business tells us something we can’t independently confirm, the profile labels it self-reported, and it is never dressed up as verified. If a register-checked and a self-reported credential appear on the same profile, the label tells you which is which.
What we don’t vouch for
A verified licence means the register says the licence is current — it is not a guarantee of workmanship, and it doesn’t replace your own checks. Our standing advice (which the tradies on the platform give too): confirm the licence covers the type of work you’re hiring for, ask for the insurance certificate, and get your quote in writing.
Spotted something wrong?
If a detail on any profile looks off — a lapsed licence, a wrong number, a claim that doesn’t stack up — email hello@homedone.com.au and we’ll re-check it against the source and correct the profile.
