Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Webwise Pty Ltd (“Home Done”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, discloses and protects personal information in connection with homedone.com.au and our services. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
Home Done is an information directory and marketplace that helps homeowners find and connect with local trades and home-service businesses.
1. The personal information we collect
- From homeowners: your name, email, phone number, suburb or postcode, and the details of the job or quote you request.
- From tradespeople and businesses: business name and contact details, service categories, and (for members) account and billing information. For sole traders, some of this may be personal information.
- From public and third-party sources: publicly available business listing information — business name, address, phone, website, service categories, ratings and reviews — obtained from public sources and licensed data providers. See section 6.
- Automatically: device and usage information, and cookie or analytics identifiers (see section 9).
2. How we collect it
We collect personal information directly from you (through forms, account sign-up, quote requests and listing claims), from licensed third-party data providers and public sources, and automatically as you use the site. Where it is reasonable and practicable, we collect personal information directly from the individual concerned.
3. Why we collect, hold and use it
- To operate the marketplace and match homeowners with relevant businesses.
- To deliver quote requests and leads to tradespeople.
- To provide, maintain, bill for and improve our services.
- To communicate with you, including direct marketing where permitted (see section 8).
- To comply with our legal obligations and protect our legal rights.
4. Who we disclose it to
- Tradespeople — where you submit a quote or job request, we pass your contact details and the job details to the relevant business so they can respond.
- Service providers who help us operate, including hosting and database, content delivery, SMS, email, payment processing and analytics/advertising providers.
- Advertising and analytics platforms, for measurement and audience purposes, where you have not opted out.
- Where required or authorised by law, or to protect our rights.
We do not sell your personal information for an unrelated third party’s own marketing.
5. Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers store or process personal information outside Australia, in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. Before disclosing personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure recipients handle it consistently with the APPs.
6. Information sourced from public registers and third parties
Some listings are compiled from publicly available business information and licensed data providers, and may appear before a business has engaged with us (“unclaimed listings”). A business can claim, correct or request removal of its listing at any time — see our Listing Claim & Removal Policy.
7. Automated decision-making
We use software, ranking algorithms and AI to organise listings, generate summaries from publicly available reviews, and match homeowners with businesses. These processes support our service and are not used to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you without human involvement. Where this changes, we will update this policy to describe the automated decisions we make and the information they rely on.
8. Direct marketing and your choices
We will only send marketing communications where permitted under the Spam Act 2003(Cth) and APP 7. Every marketing message includes an easy way to unsubscribe, and you can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link, replying STOP to an SMS, or emailing hello@homedone.com.au. We honour opt-outs across channels.
9. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies for site functionality, analytics and advertising. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work as intended if you do.
10. Security and data breaches
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will respond in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, including notifying affected individuals and the OAIC where required.
11. Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law, after which we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it. Where you opt out or request removal, we may retain limited information necessary to honour that request (for example, to keep you suppressed from marketing).
12. Children’s privacy
Our services are intended for adults and are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have done so, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
13. Accessing and correcting your information
You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you by emailing hello@homedone.com.au. We will respond within a reasonable period and may need to verify your identity first. If we decline a request, we will tell you why.
14. Complaints
If you have a privacy concern, please contact us first at hello@homedone.com.au and we will work to resolve it. If you are not satisfied, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available at homedone.com.au/privacy, and the effective date above reflects the latest revision.
